Key Goals Addressed

Connect to an enterprise that consists of wide data sources, facilitate their automated scanning, create and maintain an accurate inventory of logical data assets in the enterprise, facilitate risk assessment and trace data lineage flows.

Primary Users

Users of Enterprise Applications that require transparency in the data that lies within their system such as Information Architects, Data Stewards and Application Owners.Users of Enterprise Applications that require transparency in the data that lies within their system such as Information Architects, Data Stewards and Application Owners.

Problem Brief

Large firms have a lot of data, and can't manage what they don't know they have. A lot of their data that isn't organized can be catalogued into an inventory. The inventory should be accurate, based on real data and complete. Inventories can be of physical or logical assets - the latter is harder but more useful to catalogue. Such a catalogue or inventory is an organized asset that would make life easier for a large firm.

Solution

The core products of the MDB enterprise suite consist of Discover, Curate, Protect and Flow.

  • These 4 components come together to ensure transparency across your entire data landscape.
  • Discover is a data source connection and management tool that connects to the database on the customers end. This allows the next step Curate, to begin.

Curate enables users to organize their physical data inventory in terms of the business concepts they represent.

  • They can train the machine learning based system by providing it with examples, which it uses to identify and recommend other data that potentially represent the same concepts.
  • A human reviews some of these recommendations and provides feedback. This, in turn, improves the overall system performance, accuracy and coverage.

Protect enables risk assessment for privacy regulations and compliances such as GDPR to ensure your customers and sensitive data are all protected.

  • It also generates detailed reports for what data your enterprise holds on any individual, by collating information across enterprise wide data sources.

As data flows between integrated applications, it may change. This can have a cascading effect on other application databases.

  • For regulatory and other reasons like application portfolio rationalisation, it is imperative to understand the source, intermediary and destination applications for business concepts of interest.
  • Flow allows you to effectively map the true source of application data anywhere in the system, which other applications it has flowed to and how it has changed as it flowed.

Approach

Engagement

Partnering at a deep level, taking full ownership of the product along the senior stakeholders at Global IDs. Our detailed solutions, domain guidance from their management, in a truly collaborative fashion made for a holistic deep engagement.

Design

We called our customers daily (& frequently their customers - end users), rapidly prototyped design iterations, consistently reviewed for richer feedback. Constantly validating what was valuable before jumping to the best way to build it.

Collaborate

Following a dual track agile workflow & working as a distributed team with stakeholders across the US, development teams in Kolkata & ourselves in Pune, we architected an enterprise solution, executing quality in record time.

Engineer

A portable solution using Kubernetes, docker, MEAN stack, RabbitMQ, Redis, automated backups & restorations, scripts for various customer installs on-prem across various versions of RHEL & Cent OS which works as a hybrid system with machine learning on the cloud & data processing on-prem: a perfect mix of security, performance reliability.p>

Identity

We understood the spirit of the product well along with senior stakeholders, collaboratively conceptualising it. Given our deep understanding of the ecosystem in which it existed, it made sense that we played a key role behind the core identity of MDB. Brining in the name ‘Make Data Better’, a logo which captured the spirit & essence of the product.

Tech Stack

What does our customer have to say

We initially engaged Locusnine for visual designs. Their deep expertise in user experience - asking the hard questions and relentlessly pursuing to get the right answers - was a pleasant surprise. In our journey since, they’ve shaped more than just our next gen product, often influencing our thinking and developing robust agile practices of working together. They actually live the processes they preach. Their attitude and skill set has left us delighted - always on time!

The Locusnine Difference

Representing at MIT Chief Data Officer Conference

  • Working in close conjunction, alongside the Global IDs team at their MIT product showcase in the summer of 2018.
  • Our CEO was present at MIT alongside the Global IDs team to display and showcase the product at a global forum. We spoke with the cutomers and end-users directly during the launch.
  • Discover is a data source connection and management tool that connects to the database on the customers end. This allows the next step Curate, to begin.

Booth & Brochures Design

  • Key stakeholders of the MDB project (pictured right standing against the backdrop of the Global IDs booth designed by Locusnine for the MIT Chief Data Officer and Information Quality Symposium 2018.
  • An informative brochure showing the different phases of data maturity. The brochure was conceptualized and designed by Locusnine, exclusively for the MDB product.
  • A human reviews some of these recommendations and provides feedback. This, in turn, improves the overall system performance, accuracy and coverage.

Interactive Visualisation

  • Interactive visualisation showing three dimensional representation of a data ecosystem. Different layers represent different levels in the ecosystem. This was co-created by Locusnine and Vijay Krishna.
  • Discover is a data source connection and management tool that connects to the database on the customers end. This allows the next step Curate, to begin.

Webinars,Presentations,
Whitepapers

  • We helped them with displaying their product through webinars and presentations. We assisted them with Visual Designs and collaters for their presentations
  • A human reviews some of these recommendations and provides feedback. This, in turn, improves the overall system performance, accuracy and coverage.

Blog Series

  • We wrote a series of blogs around GDPR, collaborating with legal experts.
  • Some of these were later being considered to be published as an ebook.
  • We worked on helping the MDB team with product marketing as well.
  • Discover is a data source connection and management tool that connects to the database on the customers end. This allows the next step Curate, to begin.
